This work is executed on a section of a proof copy of the etching Euboea (vertical), 1967 (see Ben Nicholson Prints 1928-1968, The Rentsch Collection published by Alan Cristea Gallery 2007, catalogue number 96). Nicholson regularly did this “they not only of course get worked on but cut – sometimes whole slices cut off” (letter from Ben Nicholson to Cyril Reddihough 11th January 1966).
