The subtle ‘blood channels’ incorporated into the design of this blade provide a gruesome, but practical aspect of using a sword such as this in battle. However, they also exist as an elegant decorative detail that contributes greatly to the beauty of this ancient object. Interestingly, the ruling elites of warrior horsemen from Luristan, in north western Persia, were often buried with weapons such as this and their horses.
