Bridget Riley (b. 1931) is a contemporary painter who holds the status of ‘mother of op art’. Riley’s works thus feature optical illusions and are composed in either abstract monochrome or vibrant primary colours. Through her use of lines, circles, and bold geometric shapes, the complexity of Riley’s paintings is made apparent in their seeming fluidity of movement.
