Depicting the back streets of Paris near the Rue de la Gaité. Nevinson uses the burr of drypoint to sinister effect creating the rich dark shadows cast by electric lamp light. It is the most Vorticist in style of all of Nevinson’s post war prints and pays homage to his 1915 masterpiece ‘Bursting Shell’.
